Description

What is wearable tech, and what do you need to know to get started? This class will focus on the electronics used in fashion tech and interactive clothing. These devices can be sensors that track, for example, whether a garment is in a hot environment, or exposed to light, or moving in a certain way. The garment might then light up in various ways or otherwise react to its environment. This class will review what readily-available technologies are available and what their pitfalls and advantages are. The class will focus more on creation of one-off prototypes and custom devices, rather than mass manufacture, wearable computing (Apple Watch, Google Glass, etc.), or medical applications.

The class will be taught by Joan Horvath and Rich Cameron, co-founders of makertech consultants Nonscriptum LLC (www.nonscriptum.com.). Joan and Rich have also collaborated on six books on 3D printing and wearable tech for Apress.

Parking will be available for a daily rate of $5 at LKIC.
